Closed Student Loans now showing as late for last 48 months

I've had my defaulted student loans which were last paid in Dec 2017 now showing as late for the last 47 months and nothing showing before that.  How/why was this done?

Negative student loan information (by law) should be reported as long as it's accurate.
As for why?   You'd have to talk to the servicer as to why they're reporting now when they haven't before - There could have been system changes, or they're changing hands to a different handler.     Any number of reasons, honestly.

Are there any changes in your student loans database info?  (you can download it at studentaid.gov)
