Collection question

I'm dealing with a collection I want removed from my reports.  It's a utility account that billed me after I moved out, but the CA won't work with me in terms of a dispute.  I can afford to PIF, so that's my plan.

I called the OC today and they are willing to take payment over the phone, and they say they will let the CA know to remove it from my reports and it should be done in a month.  This is a small town utility company, and I asked them if they could put it in writing that it would be removed from my reports rather than updated to "paid."  She's checking on that and is going to let me know.

So, am I going about this the wrong way?  Since the OC is willing to work with me, I figure that is better than dealing with a CA.  The OC is accepting payment in full, but he CA has reported $120 more in fees.  My fear is that if I pay it, the CA may not remove it from my reports.

Really, I just want this gone off my reports as I am tired of fighting it.  Obviously I am hoping this will boost my scores since it's my only baddie.

Thoughts?

Re: Collection question

I think that if the original creditor still owns the debt, and they're willing to pull it back from collections (instructing the CA to remove it from your reports), and put that in writing to you, that you're gold. Definitely work with the OC whenever possible.

Good luck!
