Re: Credit freeze and applying for credit

The website Wallethub.com will allow you to soft pull your TU report DAILY and provide you with Vantage Score and full credit report.  They will also let you know if there is a freeze or fraud alert on your file. I check mine often

>3/2016 EX 644 CK-TU 642 CK-EQ 660 WalMart- 671.
>5/2023 All 3 reports 840ish (F8) F9s = 850 but my app finger is still twitching

Re: Credit freeze and applying for credit

Good Morning,

Sorry you got hit with a HP

I disagree with the above poster to use the LOCK and ALERT vs the SECURITY FREEZE options.

A SECURITY FREEZE is mandated under LAW (Legislative)

and a LOCK is meerly Contract Law.  Freezes can be done online or via the automated phone system... it has always gone thru within 15 minutes for me.  UNLOCKED however has taken up to 20 minutes.   I'd say your safe within an hour.

Contract Law is much 'weaker' when it comes to legal remifications.

Don't know what or where you've used to unlock your credit report, but locking and unlocking my reports has always been instantaneous for me.  I use TrueIdentity - TU; Lock & Alert - EQ, and CreditWorks - EX to lock/unlock my files and they all work immediately.

BTW, you can use IDNotify to lock/unlock your Experian report for free.  IDNotify is a free monitoring service provided by Equifax but run by Experian.  Equifax provided it as a replacment monitoring service after the data leak and later cancellation of access to TrustedID.

Re: Credit freeze and applying for credit

Freeze and Unfreeze for free directly

TransUnion

https://www.transunion.com/credit-freeze
https://www.trueidentity.com (owned by TU)
https://www.mytrueidentity.com (owned by TU, this is the best of the three but requires a code to activate. You can get a code if you were the victim of the Cap1 or other data breach)

Equifax

https://www.equifax.com/personal/credit-report-services/credit-freeze/

https://my.equifax.com

Experian

https://www.experian.com/freeze/center.html

All will send an email confirmation when you file is frozen. Usually instantaneously  but never longer than an hour.

Re: Credit freeze and applying for credit

is wallethub legitimate? Why do they want your DOB when signing up? I stopped the process once they asked that question?

When you place a freeze with Experian make sure you keep track of the PIN number! Print it, screenshot it, write it down ... DO NOT LOSE IT! It's a pain in the ass to lift a freeze with Experian if you don't have that PIN number.
