I registered at Credit Karma and saw that I have 1 account in collections which I was not aware of. The site also will not let me see the details of this account but it is listed under "Derogatory Remarks".
How can I get the actual details of this possible account in collections?
Also,
Has anyone used CreditKarma.com before? And if so, how would you rate it?
Thanks.
I find creditkarma can be useful in a limited sense as a monitoring tool. But as you're discovering, you can't see the details. You're going to need to pull your credit report for that. You get one free report each year from each of the three bureaus at www.annualcreditreport.com. You can also get a free trial to ScoreWatch here at www.myfico.com. There are several other places that offer free trials, e.g., I believe www.freecreditreport.com has one. www.truecredit.com used to, but I don't know if they still do. I'm sure there are many others.
As for the scoring on creditkarma, remember that the scores (I think Transrisk and Vantage) that they offer are what are referred to here as FAKO scores, so you don't want to place too much stock in those.
Thanks for the reply Walt_K
Quick question, how do I get the free trial for ScoreWatch from myFICO?
I went ahead and tried www.freecreditreport.com who offered a 9-day trial period for $1.00.
They only provided details from Experian, however the account in collections reported by Credit Karma was not listed. Is it possible that the account being reported by Credit Karma will only show up on the other reporting agencies? I am a little confused now, so my apologies.
I really need to find out if I have an account in collections, as I have been doing a good job of building my credit from scratch and don't want to jeopordize that.
Thanks.
Can anyone assist me?
I really need to know if I have a possible account in collections that I need to take care of.
Thanks!

As far as I know CK only offers data from your Transunion report and even then not all details are there.
Did you ever get your free reports at annualcreditreport.com? Those are the most complete source of information.
From a BK years ago to:
EX - 3/11 pulled by lender- 835, EQ - 2/11-816, TU - 2/11-782

I remember getting my free reports from annualcreditreport.com some months back when I opened my first credit card.
Is there any way to access the reports again? They won't be up-to-date either way, so I won't know if I do actually have an account in collections from the old reports.
Would I be able to find this possible account for free a different way, or would I just have to purchase me reports at this point?
Thanks for the reply, and all help is appreciated.
If you go to the main myfico.com page, you should see a featured product on the main page inviting you to start your 10-day free trial for Scorewatch.

The free reports are usually only available once a year from each CRA. You can always buy a report as one option but myFICO also offers Quarterly Monitoring for your TU reports and scores.

I just tried doing the 10-day free trial for ScoreWatch but after entering my info I received an "Error 710" which I had to call myFICO CS about.
The CS rep informed me that I have insufficient information on my report to generate a score, or that my accounts might not be reporting to the credit agencies. I have 4 credit accounts open with the oldest one being opened in October of last year. The others were opened within the last 2-3 months. I guess now I am confused as to why this is, and why I am able to get reports from Credit Karma, CreditInform and freecreditreport.com but not myFICO. I know these may seem like basic concerns but I am still very new to understanding credit.
Thanks for all the help so far.
you get 3 free credit reports a year, one from every CA...check from which CA you got the free report few months ago and request one from the one of the other or just buy one.
