I recently spoke with DirectTV and thought about getting the service - spoke with someone and they wanted to do a credit check, I said as long as it is not on my CR/soft pull. Just the other day looking at my EQ CR and zam, there it was, big ole hard pull from DirectTV.
To make things even worse I decided not to go with the service, but the Inquiry is still there. It did affect my score negatively because I had another hard pull for a CLI the same weekend!
I want to get some more CLIs with cards but don't want my score affected even more negatively.
How can I go about disputing or removing the hard pull from DirectTV from my EQ CR?
I did some searching on the forums here and this is what I found so far:
it seems like DirectTV is notorious for doing this and there seem to be so many 'disputes' about the hard pull that EQ is removing them within days of disputing.
How do I dispute with EQ? I have CreditCheckTotal.com sub or should I go to EQ's website or can I dispute from here?
Well, I already have a Fraud alert on all 3 CRs all the time anyway because of LifeLock services.
I also heard many people with success removing it through EQ online diputes - I don't know, hmmm...
on EQ's website they say you can dispute over the phone - there is a tag/button. Why do you think you cannot - I don't understand.

As it has been discussed in other threads, most CSRs don't know or understand the difference between a soft and hard credit pull. Still, it's to be expected that you will have your credit pulled when signing up for services like cable, satellite, utilities, etc. I think the fuss over inquiries is way overblown, they aren't nearly as much as a negative factor as you think. That being said, EQ generally removes inquiries when disputed.
I know from reading that creditors take it negatively if it looks as though you are applying for too much credit at once - therefore you are a higher risk to loan money to.
I want to get multiple CLIs and maybe 1 more new credit line. I lost 9 points on EQ because I had 2 hard pulls within the same week - I need all the space, room and help I can get. Why wouldn't I get it removed? Especially if I am not using the service in question, they said it would be soft and it has (apparently) a negative affect on my credit?
Plus it is good to know the system and how it works. Fuss or no fuss, I find it better to understand more than less. Knowledge is power, right?
Also, I am looking into getting a mortgage within the next year and when you are talking about those kind of numbers every little bit helps.
If EQ generally removes inquiries when disputed (how do you know that?) then all the more reason to dispute?
From all the reading I have done and from personnel experience EQ does not allow you to dispute inquires over the phone,But you can online. With running the risk of a FA and possible loosing the TL that is associated with it.But if this inquire isn't associated with a TL and you did not authorize it then dispute.
BTW if you do dispute it over the phone and they allow you to do so reply back with results.......
I'll try it out and keep you posted about the phone deal. I would do it online but EQ won't let me see my CR online, they say they have to mail it to me, sooo not sure how to get past a certain part online. Anyway...
There is no TL associated with it - it is just an inquiry hard pull, just because I spoke with them about the possibility of getting it. Asked them questions like, well does it have to be a 2 year agreement if I get the HD package, they said yes and I said nevermind then.

If you have a current copy of your EQ report or just a current file # you can go to EQ dispute online and view and dispute there.
