Do Any of the Major Credit Card Issuers Save the Information from Previous Pulls…..

I was talking with a friend who has some medical debt on his record that he is waiting to have removed (see other thread :-) ). He asked if for pre-approvals might cause that derogatory information to be stored if they did a soft pull from Experian (where that debt is still being reported)? I thought people here might have some datapoints on the topic, so I am asking you all. :-)

I was also curious, if doing that would cause them to store any other data (e.g. utilization), or if they just do the pulls and toss the data if one does not have an account or actually apply with them.

I think some lenders do. Chase is a good example. If bk exists, whether they were included or not, you'll be blacklisted from a card for 10 years. There are data points where people were able to get in sooner once it fell off reports. There's also data points where people were not even after it fell off prior to the 10 years. From what I've seen, if you don't apply for credit with chase prior to the bk falling off, you can get in sooner than the 10 years. For those that use chase's credit monitoring or apply for a chase product while bk is still there, you'll remain blacklisted the entire 10 years.

Now, I'll admit that I haven't really tracked it. The above is based on my observations here and when there's been some digging to get details. There's no established data points to support it.

I can, however, tell you that having worked at chase, and being part of their records digitization, the records they keep stretch long past your account's existence. I was told that records of applications were kept for at least 6 months, but I didn't handle that area. Being a while ago, I couldn't tell you what they currently do.

@Brian_Earl_Spilner Thanks for the information. What you are saying raises an interesting question: If there is a mistaken item on my report, and I do not know about it until the pre-approval happens, even if I dispute it and have it deleted, how would I ever get it deleted from my Chase records?

It is disappointing that there is no reasonable way to check if Chase has one on a black list.

Thanks again for your post!

I would assume it would be replaced with a new app, but have no idea. As for the blacklist for bk, it's not a secret. 1 year for auto, 10 for cards. You can call and they'll tell you that's why you were denied. The issue is when you're blacklisted for something else and not knowing how long.

The good news is chase does recon. So if there's an error you can call in and they'll pull a new report. At the cost of another HP or 2.

@Brian_Earl_Spilner

Are you talking about a Chase card that was IIB?

They have recently been approving people prior to 10 years. At least when not IIB.

Last I talked to my former coworkers a couple of years ago, company policy is 10 year blacklist for cards if bk on reports, included or not. If there wasn't a policy change then we need to look at if bk still on reports and if they applied while bk still showing prior to the approval. That would tell us whether they refer to past apps and pulls.

A number of people with BK's (including myself) have reported getting Chase cards before 10 years. Mostly the Amazon Prime card but I also saw a post about a Freedom card with BK still reporting. I got approved for their Amazon card with 6 year old BK 7 reporting.

I haven't been on much lately, but I remember there was a shift with the Amazon card. They were approving people over 5/24 as well. Iirc, there was speculation that Amazon may have told chase to lighten up. The freedom card is interesting though.

I can attest to chase approving apps with bk still showing. I was just approved for a freedom unlimited 7 years 11 months post bk7' Chase was not included in bk
