Do credit cards report account opened before card is activated?

Or does it take a few cycles of use before it reports? Asking about Discover.

Re: Do credit cards report account opened before card is activated?

My Discover reported after my first statement cut ~ 2 weeks after I got it.

Re: Do credit cards report account opened before card is activated?

The Opened date for a credit card can be any time on or after which it is approved by the creditor.

Activation is a security feature to ensure consumer receipt of the physical card.

Even if a consumer chooses not to activate the card, it can have the earlier date of account approval as the Date Opened and can be reported to a CRA.

Deciding not to activate a card after you receive it will not per se prevent its reporting to a CRA.

If that is your goal, then contact the creditor and request they close and not report the account..

I can't answer about Discover but I can tell you I was approved for a Citi Hilton Honors card and a Barclay's Jet Blue card on March 8th and both appeared on my credit reports by March 10th - 5 days before I received either card. Hope this helps.
