Happy New Year Community!
I just wanted to update everyone on my status in hopes it will help others. I posted a message on December 29th 2011 "Filed a dispute and score went down!?" expressing concern about my FICO score going down when I filed a dispute about a mislabeled credit card. EQ was reporting one of my cards that was charged off 5 years ago and had a balance of $1175 when in fact it was paid in full. Well I was shocked to wake up this morning and find it only took EQ 60 hours too correct the file. How about that? FYI- I disputed the report online after pulling my report. Will keep everyone informed on how my FICO score reacts.
Congrats and happy new year to you, also.
I'd just like to say that disputing online is not a good idea - it does all the work for them. This could have gone the other way. My advice is to ALWAYS dispute via US Mail, certified, not return receipt.
In your case it was clearly wrong, But I have some that are clearly wrong, too. I can't get them to do anything but validate, so I am keeping a giant paper trail so that one day I can turn this over to an attorney.
Again, congrats!

Thanks for the contribution Booner, I will keep that in mind.

#WINNING!!!!!
Just to pick up on Booner's comments, I would go a step further. I would suggest not even using the CRAs for disputes. I would use the direct dispute process.
That ensures all information pertaining to your dispute is received by the furnisher of the information, without the sanitizing done by the CRA e-OSCAR process. It removes any CRA "reinvestigation" meddling. It eliminates the back-and-forth between the furnisher and the CRAs. It requires response directly to you. It requires the furnisher, if they agree, to notify all CRAs that they have reported to. It is, all around, a cleaner and better dispute process.
