Employers and EWS

Hello, do employers such as banks, insurance companies, and other companies with finance departments include checks on EWS and Chexsystems as part of their pre-employment background checks and is it legal for them to do so?

In my experience employers will use a screening service for candidates, which may include identity verification, credit check, criminal background check, etc...

It's certainly possible that Chex / EWS might be included as part of the credit review process, but I don't know that most larger employers would pull the information themselves versus relying on a vendor to give them an overall thumbs up / thumbs down.
