I *THINK* some things are removed from your scoring when they are disputed. I am not sure about this though.

Was there anything else that occured, such as account aging, inquiry no longer affecting, etc.

Did the alert give a specific reason?

Yes, this is possible! Late payments while in dispute will not factor in FICO scoring.

Re: Equifax disputing. +27

Oh... man that would be awesome. I disputed 16 late payments on one account. My dispute was "I did not have 16 late payments on this account." Experian said it was only 10 lates, so I'm hoping Equifax will drop it down.

HOWEVER - I'm trying to get pre-approved for a mortgage this month. If all 16 are in dispute when the lender pulls my CR, that would be sweet!

Re: Equifax disputing. +27

Keep in mind Shnapple that the lates are disregarded during the dispute process. If they come back as "valid", then you are going to have the other problem of report date being brought more current, thus hurting your score further.

Yeah, then there's that. How did you dispute? Only 10 lates, not 16? How?

Also, if your mortgage broker or lender runs your credit while items are in dispute...and the report shows the dispute...(which they normally do in some way), your underwriter will not like it....they will want explanations for all of those items.  SO, wait until the disputes are resolved before you have apply for the loan....

Yep, it will show directly on the CR "Consumer disputes this item". Good point sh9730.

Re: Equifax disputing. +27

I went online to Equifax, pulled up the account in question and chose "I did not pay this account late" (as that was my closest option). I typed in the notes section: "I did not have 16 lates on this account" (or something similar to that).

They can take that to mean that I didn't pay late at all or whatever they want. They can verify it as accurate, change it to less lates (depending on what the OC sends to them) or delete it altogether. Smiley Happy I'll just wait and see what happens.

And I was only disputing that as an after thought to another dispute. Equifax is reporting a CC with the wrong account number that shows one 30 day late. I sent them the correct account number which will show no 30 day lates (thanks to a GW call).

Also - I'm only getting pre-approved for a loan in March. The lender has already been through all my dirty laundry, she knows what she's getting into and doesn't see a problem with it. I won't get the real loan until Aug/Sept time frame. Hopefully I'll having nothing left to dispute by then.
