First 30-Day Late in Over 25 Years

Wife had a $118 balance on our Gap card that she totally forgot about and now we have a 30-day "delinquency" on both our credit reports.  We have maintained clean reports for Smiley Sadover 25 years and now we are stuck with this delinquency for 7 years.  All 3 bureaus dropped 12-15 pts (now in the 750-760 range).  Please , please, please make sure you monitor all of your bills and balances!  One little slip-up like this will affect you for quite a long time.  smh..Smiley Sad

Given your stellar payment history, I would strongly consider contacting the creditor with an explaination, and kindly ask them for a good will removal of the late payment... certainly nothing to lose, and lots to gain IMHO.

Thanks.  Since my wife is primary and I am an additional user, I will tell her to contact them.

Can't you just get yourself removed as AU and it won't be on your report any longer?

BOOM!   What @GatoradeZeroGuy just said. You could get that removed lickety split.  This is the reason why I was pondering the value of trimming down my card count.  It's alot to keep track of.

Have her to try GW approach. Tell her it might take several tries but so worth it if they remove.

If you're planning an application, you can remove yourself easily, lenders are reluctant to approve with a fresh late.

Otherwise, I dont think you guys have too much to worry about AA wise. An isolated late isn't end of the world or your credit life.

As an AU, you could remove yourself from the account and ask the bureaus to take it off your CRAs too.

Re: First 30-Day Late in Over 25 Years

When was the late payment?

I had a similar situation with GAP card but it was during transition from Synchrony to Barclays and auto-pay failed to transfer. As it turns out, I was told by the Barclays president office that cardholders who transitioned from Synchrony to Barclays in June 2022 and had payment issues relating to the transition, will have late payments removed. However, if your payments were on time after June 2022 but then missed one, I don't think you'll be in that group of auto forgiveness but sending a goodwill email might help either way.

I have a lot less accounts and still use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of bills due and payment due dates.

I had credit issues 6+ years ago that led to a Ch 13... but oversights like what the OP described resulting in an accidental missed payment have never and will never happen here.
