I don't know what it is but for some reason there seems to be a record of me having a mortgage which I most certainly do not have.
I ran into this when trying to retrieve my free report from Equifax a few months ago. However, both my TransUnion and Experian reports both came through fine, and reflected accurate information. What alerted me was the fact that I was UNABLE to retrieve my report from Equifax. It asked me questions about my credit history, and none were even close to being applicable to me, and when I answered the questions "None Apply" or "None of the Above" (which was true), it refused to give the report to me, stating that "for security reasons" they could not. When I called Equifax and asked them about it, they explained that they didn't have my SSN on file and I needed to send them a copy of my W2. Strange?? But I guess I can do this if necessary.
What's also concerning me is the number of inquiries I have on my profile. I did apply for a car loan in October where a lot of them are bunched together within 3 days of each other. However, after that, almost a month later, there's 3 new ones that I don't recall making - all on the same day, and for 3 different banks I know nothing about. I'm concerned that perhaps someone is trying to use my name to get a loan or credit card or something. According to the website here, I only have one account, which is accurate.
Any insight?
I would most definitely send in ID and get your reports. Without seeing it you will never really know.
Then you can take appropriate action, like file a police report and put a FA on your reports if warranted.
Does anyone offer ID protection or credit monitoring as a free trial? I just put my social security number into a website that I now have doubts about and I don't want to see someone's mortgage on MY credit report thank you very much! Any help is appreciated, THX.
