Help please...Lending Club and American Express

I pay for monthly access to my Experian and other credit bureaus. It finally popped up I was pre-approved for the AMEX BONVOY card which is the only card I NEED. I have been declined 6x every six months for 3 years. I've never seen this pre-approval. I thought today was my lucky day...I applied and was denied ONLY because Lending Club reported some BS comments to the bureaus about offering me a modification during COVID and the world lockdown.

I call AMEX they basically said that is the only item blocking an approval. If I can get it removed call them back before 30 days or after 30 days re-apply. I call Lending Club and get a supervisor who tried to talk me in circles about the fact it's in my contract. I ask him to please read it to me. Clearly, he knows I have caught him lying to me. I explained when LC called me to offer this modification I asked a minimum of 10x if there would be any negative outcome on my reports. If so I do not accept. They checked with 2 supervisors and guaranteed me nothing negative. I would have NEVER accepted a modification if the outcome was this 16 months later.  What can I do to get those comments removed?

TIA.

It's not a BS if you skipped payments due to hardship and modification allowed it so they dont get reported as lates.

Anyway, you aren't the first person with this problem, many have learned the hard way what those remarks mean for the future applications and also about not accepting "help" when it's not needed.

Since modifications to existing loans are valid info, your only recourse is to have lender remove remarks. I cannot remember on top of my head how long they stay.

Which remark is being used, AC or CN?

Hmmm. You asked for a modification and got one; and I'm sure you were happy, at that time, for some financial relief during a difficult time for you and many others. As the majority of us know, CSRs make mistakes frequently. So I think maybe you should put things in perspective. Getting a CC on one hand in the near future or getting help with your mortgage, when you need it most, on the other hand.

So, here's my question. If you didn't need the modification, why would you accept it, regardless of outcome?

Re: Help please...Lending Club and American Express

All valid points and part of the learning curve for me. At the time they offered to drop my interest rate from 10.99 to 5%. That was a substantial saving. You're right...We were in full-blown lockdown and both the wife and I were not working for a few months. I didn't think it would come back to bite me. How long does it stay on my reports?

06/2021 Loan modified

Ouch and now Experian dinged me 9 points for the INQ.
