High credit score for credit union checking acount?

Called PENFED and first off after being on hold for 20mins the chick who answeres lets out this big yawn and doesn't even bother to at least say pardon me?!

I ask why I'm not able to open a checking account<

A bit rudly she says becasue my credit score is not high enough yet.

Didn't know you need a great score just to open a checking account?

How rude! Them chicks be like that

Nah, you don't need a great credit score to open checking account.

You need to be free of overdrafts, abandoned overdrafted accounts, reasonable amount of new(ish) DDAs, and in some instances, not too many inquiries for DDA openings.

All of the above can lower your score, so get a copy of your chex report and go from there.

You can do it online, don't even have to talk to chicks who yawn.

Sincerely,

Chick sans yawn.

"Chicks" is pretty out of line for a public forum.    (At least you didn't call them a B***h)

It is usually problems with Chex that gets you declined but I do know some credit unions are FICO score concerned as well.   One notable CU is DCU (Digital Federal CU).   In the past there were several people who would get approved for a credit card subject to being approved as being a member and they were then rejected as a member due to their FICO score (not Chex).   It happened a lot.   When I was first out of BK7 I always inquired about minimum score to become a member.   BECU, my local bank, had some minimum that was like 600.   I had an account at Apple Federal in VA -- they offered a good secured card -- and their minimum was 525.

Also if the CSR was yawning it might have been because you were boring her.
