When I came here in 2018 I had 2 cards with a TCL of $800 and 1 inquiry total across all the bureaus. Now I'm at 25 with about $45k.

And I still have some sub-prime scores Smiley Tongue

I think that's a pretty interesting data point. I wouldn't have thought 2 to 25 was possible, even with scores in the 720-740 range.

Neither did I until I got here. All it took was some reading, 30 inquiries per bureau, and a lot of denial about needing to garden.

LOL @ 30

I guess it also saves time....you can just keep the tiller/cultivator/backhoe/front-loader/road-grader out in the garden all the time without having to bring them in.

I'm not sure what's up with that square at the bottom... will have to look into that when I have more time.

Re: How many credit cards does an average person have?

When I found myFICO in 2018 I had 3 open cards with a total CL of $4,000.  Now I'm at 14 and $124,000.  I stopped acquiring cards a year ago but did app for the BBVA card in March when I learned about it and realized it fit my spend.

After jumping through multiple ID verification hoops to acquire the card, I find I don't like the HSBC mobile app and don't use the card because I have others that fit that category so will let it die a natural death most likely.  Same with the VS card I picked up when I tried out the SCT.

Plan to reallocate the BofA Platinum to Cash Rewards and close it. Did the same with WF Cashwise to Propel but since Cashwise is my oldest revolver I kept it open with a 1k balance

Otherwise I'm very happy with and find a use for most of my other cards.

I have some very low APR cards and some that frequently offer BTs which, now that I'm retired, really benefit me since I frequently carry a balance. My utilization is 4%, mostly on 0% offers.

Auto pay and a spreadsheet makes all of these easy enough to maintain.

FICO 8:

EQ FICO 9 - 770
EX FICO 9 - 758

Citi (2) | Discover | HSBC | BOA | NFCU (2) | WF (2) | Simmons Bank | FNBO (2) | PENFED | BBVA | US Bank | Lowes | Care Credit | Home Depot AU
