Just became AU for credit score building and received card, do I activate it?

As the title says, I became an AU on a family members account ($25K limit, $0 balance). Nothing reported on CRA yet. Does it matter if I activate the card? Do I need to put some spend through it? Can I just cut it up?

All I'm using it for is score building. Not spend.

Activation is a security measure to ensure that the card reached your hands before they permit it to be used.

It is not per se required to either have an opened account report to a CRA, or be added as an AU.

However, the AU process is NOT regulated as to required reporting under the FCRA, and they could decide to discontineu AU reporting of various reasons.

I would strongly advise to activate the card in order not to raise any issues of discontinuance of their reporting.

You should not have to use the card.

I would activate then cut it up.
