Late Payment Record

Hi Barry/ all, I have two late payment record in two of my Credit Beareaus(experian and equifax). It has been well over 6 years (one in Oct 2000 and another Nov 2001). How can get it out of my credit records ? I have heard that I have to wait for the full 7 years for that to fall off from my records. But i have also heard that it can be requested to be taken off through persistence. Please let me know of your experiences and knowledge on this matter. Thanks, S

Re: Late Payment Record

I don't want to open another thread asking the same questions, but this is the best that I could find through the search tool..

so late payments stay on your record for 7 years? right now i have 7 late payments in 9 years, which is pretty bad.. but i've made all of my payments on time in the past 2+ years. hopefully my score will improve some more (it's 711 right now).

Re: Late Payment Record

Right, late payments must go away by the 7 yr mark.

Re: Late Payment Record

Both late payments over 7 years old if my math is correct. I would dispute both with the bureaus since they over 7 years old. Also, I would not expect a score increase after they are removed.  ( I could be wrong). The first late should have dropped in 2007 and the second in 2008.

Re: Late Payment Record

hm, i think it just shows 7 overall, but not all 7 of those affect my score. i see 2 late payments from 2006, 1 from 2005, and 1 from 2003. found this under the "accounts" tab.

under the credit at a glance tab is where i see the 7 late payments. that's just a tally of all the late payments i've made, and not the late payments that have affected my score right?

Re: Late Payment Record

The two you mentioned in your original post I would dispute for the reason they are over 7 years old.  The other lates dates impact your score less as times passes.  The score reasons on your credit report are in order of what is impacting your score either good or bad. Do what you can to address the reason(s) that are impacting the score negatively.
