Re: Negotiating with Collection Agencies

Who did you contact at BOA?  In my experience BOA accepts payments at the branch, no matter how old the debt is for overdrafted accounts.  You can either pay at the branch or you can mail the payment to their processing center (not sure of the address)  if you pay at the branch, you will probably have to pay in cash, and they will send it as a cashiers check on your old account.  i had an old savings account from 1999 that i forgot about (i was a senior in high school), and i ended up having to pay it at the branch last year.  If they had my account info from 1999, i'm sure they have yours from 2004-2005.  This too had gone to collections (NCO specifically), and they were able to remove it from collections.  Just go to your local branch and speak with the manager.  I know sometimes it can be a little embaressing, but you just have to do it.  There is also a special dept that you would need to speak to, if you want to call.  Just make sure that you get transferred to the right dept, the branch manager could probably direct you to the right dept.  Hope this helps.

Re: Negotiating with Collection Agencies

I did speak with B of A and they told me I should contact Penncro.  Though obviously I'm not getting anywhere with them.  Do you think it would be in my interest to still just perhaps go to a branch?

Re: Negotiating with Collection Agencies

Yeah, i just went to the branch and spoke with the manager.  I explained that i had an overdrafted account, that closed, due to the account balance  she looked up my ssn, and found the account and took care of it.  i'm not sure which dept you spoke with.  you have to make sure that you speak with the correct dept when you call though.  i was fortunate enough to have a csr, who was able to direct me in the right direction.  and they sent me a letter in the mail, detailing that i had paid the account in full, and that it would be removed from collections, which they did immediatly.

Re: Negotiating with Collection Agencies

When you say balance is there a limit?  I mean the collection agency is saying it's 2000 dollars...is that too high for them to try to work out at B of A.  I suppose it's worth a shot.

Re: Negotiating with Collection Agencies

I had to pay BoA via Penncro as well. they would not let me pay them directly, even at the branch. That was over a year ago. Just recently, I pulled my CR and found Penncro reporting me as still owing the money. I was afraid to call them, even though I knew I paid. I guess it was fear due to them being a collection agency. I talked to a rep and they said they are not sure what happened, but they would remove it. While I had them on, I asked if they would be willing to remove the remark completely, and he said yes!!! We shall see. He told me I should check in a few day and call back if it is not corrected.
