I can't tell you how often I have waited patiently at my house for their process servers to come serve me with papers.
But they must keep getting lost because they haven't shown up once!
My favorite was a group that kept calling me several times of day so I finally took the call -- put it on speaker and recorded it with my iPad. They claimed I owed over 4800 dollars in overdraft charges from BoA for an account I supposedly had in 2008. I told them that I never had such an account and if I *had* such an account, the debt was over 10 years old and was a time-barred debt. At some point he passed me over to the "head of litigation". They just kept telling me one lie after another more absurd than the last.
They told me they were suing me. I said that Fair Debt Collection Act meant that I couldn't be sued for a time-barred debt.
They said they were actually bringing me up on charges of Fraud and violations of Interstate Commerce Law. I said that if there really was a debt, that it would be considered a civil matter and that I couldn't be arrested.
Then they claimed that they had already obtained a summary judgement against me. I told them that would have been impossible since they not properly served me with papers.
I asked if the guy had gone to law school at Trump University. He said he wasn't actually a lawyer. I said that he had represented himself as the head of their legal department and that would imply that he was an attorney. He said that he never said that he was the head of litigation.
Then I offered to replay the recording I had been making. At that point, he really flipped his lid and said that I had broken the law because I hadn't gotten his consent to be recorded. I told him that he should know that my state was a one party consent state.
After all this time, he hung up on me and I never heard from him again.
This is what happens when you call a chick who spends waaaay too much time watching Judge Judy!

@Peazmom wrote:I’ve recently started getting so many scam calls that I downloaded the Robokiller app on my phone. It’s awesome. It has its own data base of scam numbers that have been reported, plus you can add others that you want blocked. It also has a library of “answer bots” that you can choose from to answer the scam calls to your numbers. They range from funny to angry. My current selection tells the scammer that, while I realize they called my number they have actually won a cruise, and proceeds to ask who they are going to take with them, etc. A total waste of their time! LOL. Every time a scammer calls and Robokillers answers, it will let you know and if the scammer stays on the line, Robokiller will record the interaction. Can be quite entertaining!
I have robokiller but wasn't aware of that feature. May I ask how I access that feature?
Once you are in the Robokiller app, look along the bottom ribbon, you should see “answer bots”. If you select that you can toggle on the “Use Answer Bots”, then you can select an individual answer or you can select to rotate through them all.
Thank you, I just looked all I get on bottom is:
Dashboard block/allow Settings
No other choices?

I wonder if we have different versions? This is what mine looks like on my IPhone.
@designated_knitter... just deleted your telephone number! Too much for me!!! Judge Judy is enough to run the other way
Fabulous handling of the call!!! Scare me to death as the caller!!!
Why thank you ;-).
When I am having a bad day and need to take out my pent up hostility on someone, I'll usually answer one of these calls ;-)

Thanks apparently my cellphone provider does support this feature 😕
What is funny is I thought I was only getting these scam calls because my credit sucks! I'm not proud to admit that I've used Payday loans waaaay back in the day and walked away from them. I would apply through some sketchy websites so my information is out there complete with full SSN and very old address I used at the time.
I also did walk away from a BoA checking account that had supposedly accumulated over 500 bucks in fees on a 38-dollar overdraft.
Again, not proud of it but when you are going through a divorce, raising kids, and dealing with job changes and losing a parent -- well, guess what! BoA or Payday lenders just weren't at the top of my priority list back then!
So when I got those calls, I figure they are some junk debt collector from my deep sordid past.
Then about a month ago, I was at a family wedding (where there were a lot of relatively affluent in-laws and siblings who all have impeccable credit) they started talking about the same exact phone scams. At that point, I wasn't so embarrassed because I realized if THEY were getting those calls, EVERYONE was!
I've thought about that app. But then thought do i really want another 3rd party app on my phone, that could potentially provide said scammers with info? lol
It tends to go in spurts for me, heavy for a few weeks then nothing for a week. I also started getting local callers that I don't recognize, then in the call details the number shows up from out of State.
