Re: Newbie: wants to know best way to get credit reports on constant basis

@MeCasa  I've been using the service here for a few years. It offers some extras I've never used (fishing for my info on the web, etc) and the variety of score models provided aren't that useful for me.. so I kinda think the ~$480/year is a little steep, but it's all in one place and monthly reports and semi real-time scores and alerts are interesting.

The report I like the best is the printed hard copies annualcreditreport.com sends postal mail. Very detailed and nice use of the paper compared to printing that stuff from the web delivery. myFICO reports have the most important things but do not report soft inquiries and probably some other tidbits.

@MeCasa just get it. If you need to micromanage in order to get your scores to a particular range to maximize your terms, that's what the MyFico service is best for.  Loads of data every month, alerts, and scores constantly updated.

Oh, and yes,  740's and up allows you to just stroll past the gatekeepers usually providing all your datapoints are satisfactory.

Re: Newbie: wants to know best way to get credit reports on constant basis

I would like something that shows 'projections' loke Chase's Credit Journey. It shows what you can do to improve score. Let's say I want my score to be over 740 in 6 months. It will show exactly what I need to do to get it over that point in the time period. This would include suggestions such as pay the cards above 50% utilization and put it on cards with low utilization.

These moves are generally easy to make and I never knew this would help. Previously I have loaded 0% interest cards and paid off all other cards.

I would argue there isn't a score prediction model worth a wooden nickel; the myFICO model might be a hair better than the others, but still basically worthless.

Re: Newbie: wants to know best way to get credit reports on constant basis

Is there a 'proper' or best way to get projections. I would have thought that since Experian is behind Chase's scores that that was what they wanted for the desired score. Apparently I thought wrong  :-(

No, way-WAY too many variables to take into account; basically for a simple profile the prognostication could be considered a SWAG, anything more complex that simple/new/clean profile is utterly useless.

Excuse my ignorance but

What is simple profile?

What is SWAG?

Sorry Mike

Re: Newbie: wants to know best way to get credit reports on constant basis

Simple Profile = limited credit history length and a few credit products; basically nobody.

SWAG = (S)ophisticated (W)ild (A)ss (G)uess

All I'm trying to get through to you is FICO prognostications are worthless.
