PPCA – Post Poor Credit Anxiety

Not sure where to ask this so ...

Does anyone else suffer from this? I have done my work and cleaned up my credit. By July of 2010 it will be as clean as it can be with just 1 30-day that will age off in a few more years. My reports then will reflect more than 4 years of flawless history and simulators suggest that my scores should be solid in the low to mid 700s. My AAoA on EQ and TU should be over 4 Yrs and EX should be over 3. I will have no inquiries or accounts less than 1 year old. My util is <3% and, yes, it will survive Christmas intact.

So why is it that every time I think of applying for a few new non sub-prime CCs, that dreadful little voice in the back of my head that says "you will be lucky to get anything, don't get your hopes up, just take what you can get" starts sounding off? How does one get beyond the old mindset and move into the creditworthy realm I have worked so hard to get back to?

I’m not doing anything until 07/2010, just doing my research.

Re: PPCA – Post Poor Credit Anxiety

Ihave 3 years to go until my major derog falls off my CR.  Until then, it is never easy to apply for credit.  I suspect even with clean CR, it will always be tense to apply for credit.  Look at it this way, if you apply for credit and you have no INQs on the CR they pull, worst case the point loss will go away in 1 year.  LOL I trade my BofA TL for an INQ point loss any day of the year.

It will come! One thing that will help is if you do refrain from apping until July 2010 and keep making all your payments promptly. That will reassure you that you do have the self-discipline that marks a good credit risk.

As you can tell from this forum especially, we have a lot of members who can't resist chasing the latest shiny new offer. Smiley Sad If you make out a plan, listing your credit goals, and stick with it, I think you'll have your confidence up by then.

The bit about doing your research in the interim is a great idea, btw. CC frenzies come and go, but careful reading here on the forums will help you get the credit product that makes sense for you.
