I have been trying to get my personal info updated, but with no success. I got divorced and went back to my maiden name. I contacted all 3 CB's to do an updated name change, only to be told they have to leave my married name on file because more than one creditor is still reporting under that name. However I'm told that that isn'r true and that legally they have to only report my name as it is legally. I sent a copy of DL & SS card. It's also the same with my previous address. Can anybody help me with this?
Welcome to the forums!
The personal info section updates automatically based on the names and addresses they see creditors using. At least I think that's what happens. Thus, even if the bureau did eliminate the names you don't like, they would crop back up pretty soon again.
It may therefore be easier to change the names first with your creditors, and then three or four months later work on cleaning up the report so that it looks the way you want it.
RobertEG and others may know better.
I concur with CreditGuy.
