Potent Credit Freeze Law (Washington State)

Starting September 1, 2008, a new credit freeze law goes into effect in Washington state. Now ANYONE (not just ID theft victims) can freeze their credit report. $10 to each of the three CRAs to place, remove or temporarily lift a freeze. CRAs have to respond in 15 minutes. Current law says 3 days to respond.

Passed unanimously by both houses and signed by the Governor. Gives the consumer a bit more power with potential creditors.

Them: "Heh, Noah, we'd love to sell you a car. Let us pull your report."
Me: "OK, which one do you pull? I'll unfreeze it."
Them: "Huh?"
Me: "Yeah, I need to unfreeze that bureau so you can pull it. Then I'll refreeze it."
