Problems with TransUnion

I’m having a particular problem with TransUnion and after trying for the last 3 days, can’t seem to get them to understand that something is wrong on their end. They keep shouting out “open a dispute”
I have 5 accounts reporting to all 3 CRAs and TransUnion is behind by 2 months, about to go on 3 in January on 4 out of the 5 accounts. They are not showing payment history for November or December. The last payments they’ve added were in October. They show that the “balance” updated was in November, but I’m not entirely sure that is accurate either now, because my cards, all but one, are at a 0 balance now, and they weren’t then. They still show as having a balance, and no payment history marked for November or December.
I’ve called them, all 3 of the people I spoke to were foreign, and blamed my creditors, which can’t be the case because my experian and Equifax are both accurately reported, and they are all different banks. Asked for a supervisor, was told they have no supervisor currently I guess due to holidays.
What’s even more mind blowing, is that I have two accounts with Cap1, a Savor card and a QS. They have accurately reported the Savor card. But not the QS.
I’m not really sure what’s going on, or even what to do at this point, but I do believe that it will hurt me in the long run if I can’t get it fixed somehow. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Re: Problems with TransUnion

Contact your creditors, explain the situation, and ask if they can do an off-cycle re-report to transunion only.

Transunion will catch up eventually, but you'll probably have better luck going through uour creditors. A dispute would also work as they'd have to contact your creditors for the correct balance info and update accordingly -however, that can also sometimes backfire. For example, if, for some reason, the creditors fail to respond in time, TU could delete the entire tradeline as part of the dispute resolution.

So, imo, your best bet is to try fixing through the creditors. If that doesn't work... I'd just wait for TU to get their act together.

Re: Problems with TransUnion

I’ve done that with Discover, as well as my credit union, but I plan to close my credit one bank card.
Cap1 basically told me the same thing, they’d have to do some sort of dispute. Like you said, I was hesitant to open a dispute because I didn’t want valid info deleted. I just want my payment history to show up along with 0 balances. Especially since I just got in with NFCU and I need it accurate for when I go to APP for a second card. (First card was a small $500 limit, of which I partly blame TransUnion)

Re: Problems with TransUnion

Well, then you may have no choice but to open a dispute. 9 out of 10 times, balance related disputes work out fine... there is just that small chance that it doesn't, then you have to fight to have an account added back.

With regards to NFCU - you could always recon a low limit - ask them to pull a different report to see updated balances...

Re: Problems with TransUnion

Oh... rather than disputing directly w TU - You could open a complaint through CFPB. They have "special dispute agents" at TU that work on CFPB complaints - they tend to be more careful and it's a human working on it, not a bot. It's how I got an erroneous public record removed after several failed TU disputes.

Re: Problems with TransUnion

Yeah I was wagering I needed to wait until after the holidays to hopefully try and get a supervisor who could look closer at my profile as the other people were literally just walking in circles the entire time I talked to them. And they all ended up blaming the creditors. Surely 4 different banks couldn’t all be making the exact same mistake?

In regards to NFCU, I had kind of a mixed experience there. I called twice to recon, the first woman literally told me they were going to re-pull my TransUnion and I was like...why? I literally just applied for this card yesterday. I stated I only wanted to recon my starting limit, not ask for an increase. And the second lady I spoke to, basically said my initial limit will be the max they give me until 6 months have passed and recon probably wouldn’t work, but that she would do it if I wanted. I applied for the card via the welcome call, who basically urged me to. Despite me telling her that I was having problems with TransUnion right now. My TransUnion score should actually be (if myFICO simulator is somewhat accurate) around 671. It still shows as 656. So I’m not entirely sure what to do there either lol.

Re: Problems with TransUnion

You can app for your first NFCU CLI at 91/3 (91 days AND 3 statement cuts). Then, each subsequent CLI is every 6 months (181 days).

They generally pull EQ for CLIs, TU for new accounts. So if your EQ report is accurate, you should be fine for a CLI request at 91/3. If denied, it would be for other reasons outside of erroneous balances reporting.

File a CFPB complaint against TU - you can also upload supporting docs to the complaint, if you have any.

Re: Problems with TransUnion

Yeah I’m waiting to see if I can get a supervisor after Christmas is over. After that I’ll file a complaint since they don’t seem to be willing to fix it any other way. I just sent a recon to NFCU asking for a higher limit and mentioned my issue with TransUnion in detail, I don’t expect it to get approved but at least I tried, and I’ll try at the 91/3 mark. By that point, if everyone is reporting accurately I should have moved a good deal higher in score anyways after I pay my Savor card down to 8%.

Just a note, NFCU does not use TU for increases, they use Equifax. and lately it has not been a HP on Eq.

TU is for new apps.
