When do accounts step down from being new? 6mo? 1yr? etc...
I think it depends on the context. Recent or new accounts are generally those accounts that have been opened less a year. There is some sort of risk factor associated with too many new accounts and/or too much recent credit. On the other hand, when I spoke to a couple of credit analysts when applying for new cards, it seems that they were more interested in the new accounts in the past six months. Still, it's just one factor in the assessment of your overall credit profile and the impact can be high or low based on that.
I made myself a list and I have 11 "new" accounts. By new I mean new to me because prior to rebuilding I never had any. Oldest is 19mo, 2 @11mo, 1 @10mo, 1 @7mo, 1 @6mo, 3 @5mo 1 @4mo and 1 brand new one. I took all those stinking shopping cart trick store cards.
For FICO scoring, two years.
Are you saying after 2 years they will stop being considered "new"?
