Review My Profile!!!! 19 years old...

Hi everyone! I am fairly new to the forums, I was just curious if you could review my profile and let me know what you think: I am a 19 year old college student (sophomore).
I have a FICO 08 score of 754.
Four revolvers:
-Discover IT- $3000 limit, $0 balance (opened 12/2014)

-Citi DC- $3300 limit, $7 balance (6/2016)
Overall UTI: 1%
No baddies ever.
No cosigning, all cards are under my name.
Reported income: $42500
No loans to report.

Re: Review My Profile!!!! 19 years old...

Looks like you're well on your way to scores in the 800's in the next year or two with good credit behavior.  Your income is pretty high for a second year college student assuming you are in school full time, but I imagine that reported income is part of the reason why you were able to obtain credit limit(s) greater than what many 19 year olds possess.

The only thing you're really missing is an installment loan for credit mix purposes.  Some will recommend you get one, I personally don't think it's necessary at all as with 750+ scores you can already obtain everything that someone with a 850 score can, generally speaking.  If you just keep doing what you're doing your scores will continue to grow.

On time payments and utilization combined make up 2/3 of your score and clearly you've got those two things nailed down.

I am very impressed and kudos to you!

First, I agree do not get a loan just to have a loan installment.  Your scores are right on spot to be able to ascertain anything that a 800+ score can do!

2nd I have a question.... my nephew is 19 years old he just graduated this past June.  I put him on as an Authorized User just a couple of months ago and he will not generate a score until apx 4 more months.  HOW did you start establishing credit?  Was there one thing that you did to get the ball rolling?  Any suggestions on who is more apt to give a 19 year old w/a 35hr a week job credit without a co-applicant?  Car Loan? CC's? etc?

I have found that DCU will give him an auto loan with 20% down etc.  But anything you may offer up will help cut my research time for him.  He is starting college in January .. he wanted to take his first semester off so that he can be focused.

Thank you in Advance !

Also you should post more .. because you can be the beacon for others young and starting out !

Congratulations again.

Re: Review My Profile!!!! 19 years old...

Hi BellaLinda! Well the day I turned 18 I got the Discover card which is how I got my start. I let it age 6 months before getting a Wells Fargo (which I closed due to lackluster rewards). Then once my score generated after 6 months I was able to let it increase til I could try for BoA! (I wanted 3% on gas!) The Amex was just to try for a high limit, I had around a 750 score when I applied for that, and the DC is now my main card! It was really one card leading to another, I always recommend Discover as a good starting card (the student version). They started me at $500 then auto CLI'ed to $1500 then to $3000 so it grew with me! Also thank you for the compliment, I hope I can be proof 19 year olds can get prime cards and solid scores with some discipline!

I would love to know how a 19-year old full time college student make $42500/year.  That's a whopper of a side job.

Re: Review My Profile!!!! 19 years old...

You may want to get a low interest auto loan or other installment loan. While you have an impressive credit card history you need some installment loan history also. If you seek a mortgage in the future you may not qualify for the lowest rates without having a more balanced credit profile showing responsible use of both installments and revolving credit.

Re: Review My Profile!!!! 19 years old...

Tacpoly- it's a mix of three summer jobs, two jobs while at school and money from parents that goes towards school expenses. Hard work but worth it! I save what I can.

Re: Review My Profile!!!! 19 years old...

Sarge12- Thank you for the advice. Right now I don't want a loan just to get one as I feel like it'd be spending money for no reason. Also I am new to the forums and am not certain how to quote people so sorry for just replying like this!
