ScoreWatch error?

I received a message from Scorewatch today, which said that my FICO had dropped 6 points due to an increase in the balance of a CC. It reported that my balance had gone from 0 to 124, but I have made no charges and the CC website shows the balance is still 0. How should I deal with this?

Re: ScoreWatch error?

Would this be a HSBC or Orchard card, would it?

HSBC, and I'm sure there are others I'm not aware of, has an odd reporting schedule. For me anyway, they typically report sometime between the 5th and the 15th of the month usually by the time the statement cuts. However, they will post the balance usually that was on the last day of the month.

For example, I received the statement around the 20th of each month with a due date by the 15th of the following month. So, my statement was around March 20 and was due April 15. I knew if I wanted to have a $0 balance reporting, I had to payoff the card no later than March 31. If I wait until the due date, and my balance was, let's say $300 on March 31, then even if I paid it off on April 1, it will report as $300 on the CR.

And again, I'm sure there are other cards that report oddly like that. Which card do you have?

Re: ScoreWatch error?

Score Watch did the same thing to me yesterday. Said I lost 16 points on that card. I paid that card fully to a ZERO balance, but the balance reflected is before I paid the card.

This never happened to me before, all the balances showed were after the bill was paid.Hmm interesting.

Re: ScoreWatch error?

Same exact thing happened to me, only with Amex. 3 point drop on a 357.00 balance. I try not to lose sleep over it. The account was PIF, and next month, the zero balance will be reflected.Smiley Happy

Re: ScoreWatch error?

It was HSBC. I found it odd, but as it has  been explained now, I will not sweat it any more. Thanks for all the replies.
