If some of you read my earlier posting about a letter I received from Allgate Financial LLC in response to my request for validation, I wanted to provide a quick follow up.
I did as was suggested, and faxed back a response to the letter yesterday. This afternoon I received a telephone call from the President of Allgate Financial wanting to discuss the situation and come to a resolution.
In short, I learned that this account on my report (original creditor was CASHNETUSA) was a payday advance company. The scary thing is, that sometime in December 2006, someone applied for a payday loan online, in my name, with my correct SSN and contact info. The bank the money was deposited to however, is a bank that I once had an account with in 1997, but closed after I returned to the States after being stationed overseas. My ex-husband however, had an account at this bank through the duration of our marriage and the more I learned from Allgate today, and the more I've sat here trying to make sense of it, I have to believe that he is not somehow responsible for this. The problem is, we've been divorced for over 3 years now and haven't had contact with him since then. I'm not sure yet how I'll track him down to get to the bottom of this.
The great news is, Allgate was very helpful in providing me the information I needed and in coming to a resolution. I sent in my written statement basically explaining all of the above and they will list the account as disputed and remove it from my credit reports.
In a follow up email, the President of Allgate told me they are going to try to get CASHNETUSA to take this account bank, and see if they are able to provide IP addresses to see where the original payday loan application originated from. I was EXTREMELY happy they were not only willing to work with me, but also resolve the issue so quickly. With this being my first time having an account on my credit report that I knew wasn't mine, and reading many messages from the forums, I was really worried about how complicated this error was going to be to fix.
Keeping my fingers crossed that everything we worked out over the phone and through e-mail goes as arranged. Now I can focus on finding out who did this. Does this constitute being the victim of identity theft?
Thumbs up Allgate Financial, I am extremely satisfied with our conversation and outcome. Thanks!
