I just joined myFICO. My report shows a late payment to Amex that affected my score. The late payment was a result of a technical issue at Amex. I called their credit bureau to try to work this out. A fairly rude woman there kept asking me for the account number I was looking at - NOT my card account number. She said the number should start with 34999, but I don't see that anywhere. Maybe it's something that appears on an Equifax report, but not showing up here?
Any ideas?

Welcome!
Amex doesn't have their own credit bureau. Amex does report to the 3 main credit bureaus but they down own it and only report to it. If you feel the late is in error, keep calling and writing Amex and show them proof if you have it. I've had Amex CCs in the past and I'd call using the ### on the back of your CC or call the number off your statement. It's Amex that reports the info and you'll have to get it squared away with them.
