“USB Fraud” hard pull after approved for 2nd new card in 2 years?

This month we’ve been working on maximizing our available credit. Neither my husband or I have applied for a new card in two years. We both have 730 plus credit etc. My husband applied for a new Bank of America card and got 8k and got a preapproval in the mail from Columbia Bank Elan Services (owned by US Bank) And was approved for 14k, he added me as a authorized user. Before this all of our other credit card accounts automatically gave us increases along with one soft pull increase of $4,500 on my end. I just saw a hard inquiry on his Transunion for a “USB FRAUD HUB HARD” Minneapolis, ma 55402. A few days before when we accepted the preapproval they put a normal hard inquiry for Elan that was expected. Are they concerned we are being fraudulous by getting a few new cards?! This has more than doubled our available credit. Anyway I’m worried! Anyone else?! All of our cards are at a zero balance with only a few having small balances.

There have been other recent reports of this same language. I'm not sure that anybody knows what to make of it yet. Please keep us updated of any developments on your applications. https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/General-Credit-Topics/New-TU-inquiry-USB-Fraud-Hub-Hard/td-p/540408...

One thing I can add, we did talk to US Bank yesterday to order a replacement credit card because when they automatically sent a new one after one expired we never received it. If they did a hard pull to make sure nothing bad happened to that old card we will not be happy. The balance on the account is zero. I’ll be calling them tomorrow.

Re: “USB Fraud” hard pull after approved for 2nd new card in 2 years?

I just got some answers! Yes it did have to do with getting the new credit card from elan financial services Columbia bank. He said it’s a part of their process to not only do a regular hard pull under elan but to do a separate hard pull to check for any fraud. Needless to say I’m not too happy about getting two hard pulls for one new card! They obviously didn’t see any fraud so my new card is on the way. I’m going to dispute that second hit with the company and maybe the bureaus 😡
