platinum vs gold vs black

Guys,

In the old days your card color gave a pretty good indication of your CL.  In addition there was some prestige associated with the color of the card.  Now it looks like everyone is offering a platinum card.  Why do you think that happened?

Marketing weenies used the colors, when they had meaning, to ensure the colors meant nothing.
