Are you renewing an existing contract ?  Or getting a contract with a provider that you haven't done any previous business with ?   If you are talking about the latter situation then it could result in a hard pull, which might drop your FICO score by a few points.

Get a prepaid phone and just swap out the Sim card... it should get you by for 2 weeks.

Don't sign a new contract because they will pull your credit.

see if you can buy a cell phone outright with the same carrier from a local bargain site, but do not sign another contract before you close.
