Barely any credit, best way to boost for mortgage?

My brother is looking into getting a mortgage but he has a low score due to having NOTHING on his credit except school loans (positive, paid on time for 25 months). He makes good money, though.

What's the best way for him to boost and what's a logical timeline to expect before applying for a mortgage?

Would it help if I put him as an AU on my Cap One card (they report, and I'm always low util)?

@Candikane.  When does your brother plan to apply for mortgage?

Preferably, he should get some revolving accounts of his own.

Does he know his EX2, TU4, EQ5 scores?
