Can't prove I'm disabled

I'm supposed to close Tuesday. I have a conditional approval. They want a letter from my doctor stating that I'm disabled. A letter from the VA stating that I am Permanently and Totally disabled is not enough for the underwriters. They want a letter from my doctor stating this. I can't get one as he is a brand new doctor for me and my doctor for the last 8 years died in Nov and they closed the practice.  I've emailed them explaining this and hope it's enough. I don't understand why my official letter from the VA is not enough

Can you get copies of your C&P exam reports that document this?  Can you provide documentation to your current physician from the other practice that would allow him/her to write the letter for you?

I've had one c&P report and it was in 2002. My award letter stated that no other C+P exams would be  required. I've submitted my 2011 letter stating my award amount and that it's permanent in nature . My new doctor has not recieved my medical records from my old doctor. He has requested them twice now. When I call the office my old doctor, it's no longer in service. He died in November and I was never notified. I only found out when I called for refills to tide me over during my move and before I could get in to a new doctor. I actually had to go to an urgent care to get medication when I first moved to this new state. This new doctor has only seen me once, and honestly I don't blame him for not being comfortable writing a letter stating that I am permanently disabled.  I don't understand why actuall letters from the US gov won't suffice

Would the letters from the US Gov't be that of Social Security? It could be that SS does not give specifics of the disability and does not guarantee/provide proof that this is to be received for an extended period of time. Only the doctors office can do that for you. If you are using the funds as a source of income, the lender needs proof/verification that your disability is infact longterm.

NO, I have a letter from the VA stating my permanent disability. I do get SSDI too and have just the letter stating my current benefit amount. I've been on SSDI for 20 years

Well, I'm trying to find out where my records are and may be able to get another doctor from  my deceased Doctor's practice to look at my records. Or maybe I can get them to send the records to my new doctor and he wil reconsider

I suddenly realized that while it may take a day or two to find my medical record, my lab work, which proves my disability and recent health condition , is easily available.I  called the lab this AM and they were open. They have faxed my new doctor my lab work from the last two years along with the info that my specialist recently died. My doctor will have it when he reaches his office Monday morning. Hopefully that will help

I've been following your story and I hope this resolves the problem.

I'm also a disabled veteran and I've never experienced anyone who wouldn't accept the award letter from the VA. If it was earlier in you application process I would have suggested you find a different lender.

In a way it makes sense. I guess what they are trying to do is verify my SSDI as long term income. While the VA will rate you as permanently disabled, SSDI does not have a "permanently disabled" status. As such, they ask for a doctor to state that your condition is likely to continue for at least 3 years.

  This was not explained to me very well and as such I don't think I explained it to the doctor well.

 I also assumed my new doc had my  medical records. He does not, and so he is simply going on my word and the VA letter.   Hopefully having lab results in hand will help me out.
