Homeowners Insurance

We just changed companies for our homeowners insurance.  In doing so we had to pay a full year premium directly to the insurance company.  However, we are still paying for homeowners insurance on our monthly mortgage.  What normally happens in such a situation?  Do I need to contact the mortgage company?  Thanks!

Re: Homeowners Insurance

Yes, contact the original insurance provider and politely tell them you are kicking their sorry butts to the curb.......

(politely so that you'll promptly get a refund of any unused policy premium $ and because its' the 'right thing to do'. )

Then, contact your mortgage company and refer them to your new insurance company so they can be added to your new company policy as the loss payee, ASAP.   Sending them the declarations page and receipt would likely be helpful as well.

Re: Homeowners Insurance

Cancel the original insurance and have your new insurance contact your mortgage servicer directly with proof of insurance. Give your new company your lenders name, loan # and 1-800 #. Insurance companies do this all the time. You will get a refund for any amounts due you from 1st insurance company. Very common happens all the time.

Re: Homeowners Insurance

Thanks!  I actually changed insurance companies at the beginning of December 2017 and canceled with the old insurance company immediately.
