Community property state here (AZ), me: 680 mid mtg and spouse is 666 so they used the 666. $279,550 includes the 2.4% VA funding fee- 3.5% (not locked yet, hoping for better) and P&I is at $1,445 (low property taxes about 1500-1700), asked for 320k
Declared 130K income (wasn't counting my part-time gig, just my main job sans bonuses at the league).
20% down (had 250K in near liquid assets) on a SFH, which are the other things when it comes to amount you can go shopping for, Chase gave me an initial number of 1.1M for a SFH 
On the flipside if I'd done that I wouldn't be back in school now so I guess it works out. Next door neighbor's place sold 2 months ago for 380, or 35K above what I paid for mine, so the plan is still intact.

Forgot to add income of 110k- 320k approved for
80k year - husbands income alone
-Although I have income, it didn't count because I'm a stay at home mom.
Pre-qualed for 300k with a contingency of paying off our car (less than $2500 left on it).
But offered 285k on the house and didn't need to pay the car.
