Is it possible to get a mortgage pre-qual without a HP?

I'm not planning to buy for at least a year, but I just want to confirm that I am eligible to meet the VA loan requirements and how much I would be approved for.  Is there a way I can find this out without having a mortgage broker HP my reports?

purchase your mortgage scores from here, and take them to a VA lender.  Ask them to look your report over and see if you would qualify.

send your reports to a lender with income/assets and job history. they might ask a few more questions, but a prequal like that is easy.
