Re: National Mortgage Help Center

I checked out their website, and it contains no information about who they are or how they work.  Can't even tell where they're located.  Based on their FAQ, it seems like they're offering to facilitate modifications through the government's Making Home Affordable plan.  The website also suggests that they will charge a fee for their services.

No one needs to go through a third party to apply for an MHA modification - just go directly to the lender.  There are no fees, upfront or otherwise, to get an MHA modification.

A lot of companies have sprung up to help distressed borrowers during these difficult times.  Many are fraudulent, some are not.  There's no way to tell whether this company can deliver on any promises.  It may be a legitimate business - there's no real way to tell.  But in general, people should be wary about mortgage modification companies.

One third-party nonprofit to consider is NACA.  They have a mixed track record, but they have been able to help borrowers in many cases, without charging exorbitant fees.
