Underwriting Manager?

We did our currently FHA loan thru a mortgage broker. I followed up today for a status and was advised that the file was with the underwriters manager. Is this normal? Should we be worried?

Re: Underwriting Manager?

Hi Erica,

Generally speaking, my underwriter won’t send a file up to their manager unless they plan on denying the loan & they’re checking to see if the manager can make it work or if the manager agrees that the u/w should deny the loan.

Re: Underwriting Manager?

Generally speaking an UW Manager is brought into the process because you may have been assigned a Junior UW therefore a 2nd signature is required. Or as previously stated, the loan was suspended or denied by the Underwriter so UW Manager will review the file and see if they can try to make it work. You should ask your Loan Officer to be more specific. Don't hesitate to drill down on your concerns or questions. We LO's are here to fight for you, and it's always better to circle the wagons. Bringing the borrower into the equation, even during troublesome times is crucial. Two heads working on a solution is always better than just one.

Best wishes to you.

Did you ever figure out why it was with an underwriting manager?
