Best Online Savings account besides Discover?

I decided to set up an online savings account because my bank has a horrble savings rate and I want to get serious about saving some money.  So I set up the Discover online savings account tonight only to realize after 3 calls to tech support and an hour of my life I'll never get back lol trying to add my banking info that they are not compatible with NFCU checking accounts.

Apparently there is a list of banks you can't transfer money to and from with Discover and they are on it.  I can set up direct deposit but I can't push or pull money from either Discover Savings or NFCU to each other.  The reps were all really nice but I won't be using an account I can't link to my bank account so it will be closed.

So now looking for favorites with no fees or minimum deposit needed as I am a small fish right now lol.

Re: Best Online Savings account besides Discover?

I was able to push money from my Discover checking to NFCU savings a few months ago to fund my SSL.

Re: Best Online Savings account besides Discover?

I use Alliant Credit Union for my main hub now and never had problems with push/pull ACH. They have a decent savings rate there too.

I still have my Discover savings open though with some money parked there.

Thanks for the links, I probably should have done that myself before posting lol.  But I also wanted to see if maybe anyone had recommendations based on experience and who to stay away from.  This is a great start, thanks!

I would second alliant i have saving and checking through them they have very competitve rates especially on the checking account side, .6% isn't bad for checking

One gotcha with the Alliant login is its very aggressive and easy to lock yourself out... id keep a copy of the long list of answers they prompt you for... they periodically ask you a security question from a long list and you only really get three tries for a password or miskeyed security question...

I'm very happy with Memory Bank, 2.4% interest for Money Market and 1.6% on checking. I joined earlier this year for a $100 bonus (no longer available), one of the few bank account bonuses I stuck around with. As a savings account the Money Market is limited to 6 transactions per statement period but I find it easy to sweep funds into the MM and move funds to checking as needed and keep the transactions to 2-3 per month.

There's also a couple credit unions that give high interest for limited balance. I have DCU savings with currently 6.12% up to $1k, nice for a rainy day fund. And Premier Members CU pays 4% on Money Market up to $2k. Both are available nationwide with a $5 donation to their education fundation and both are SPs to join, and Premier Members gives you a $50 bonus if you have a referral from a member, I'm a member. And there's WyHy credit union in Wyoming that pays 4% on checking up to $15k with some debit card transaction requirements. You can join out of area by calling in, Oldman has accounts there and can provide more into.

It's strange Discover can't work with Navy Fed on electronic transfers, I've never heard of that, it's just routing & account numbers.
