Easiest way to get in with NFCU

I was just curious but I always heard that to become a member & obtain one of their cards you had to open up a saving account of at least $5, but I also heard you can possibly donate to a charity to gain membership is this also true? Frankly I would rather that option as I find that the easiest.

I'm looking into options in possibly getting a 2% CB card & although I bank with Chase if I was to open up an account with NFCU & deposit say $25, would I be required to build the account up over time in order to get/keep the card? I'm currently trying to build up my checking & savings account with Chase so I don't want to spread myself too thin. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Any military in your family? You need that for membership.

There was once a way to get in if you didn't have any military affiliation but they closed that loophole a long time ago.

Re: Easiest way to get in with NFCU

I do have an uncle that's former military but idk if he's a member of NFCU & it could be a headache to get him to possibly join if he's not & possibly sponsor me.

The relative does not need to be a member. You just need proof of their military status (ex or not) and proof of relationship.

He's my uncle through marriage, how easy would that be to prove?

Re: Easiest way to get in with NFCU

That I don't know. Hopefully someone else will chime in. Also, you can always check the FAQs on the website.
My little brother was in the Army and is in the Reserves now. Also, my mother married a crazy man when I was like 7 and he was Army. We were always on base (shopping or whatever) and I kept a military ID current. So I'm eligible by immediate relations.

Aunts and uncles are NOT listed on the eligibility guidelines with navy.

Hrm, I need to see if I can get my mother's Air Force record, saw there was a site I could try to do that on; maybe after getting back from SF next week.

I never had much use for NFCU but it's a good CU and it wouldn't hurt me to have another one of those TBH.

Went into branch last month.

Told them my dad served in Vietnam War.

They opened up an account for me.

No verification or papers needed.
