Sponsoring to Nephew to become a nfcu member

My My nephew actually lives with me with the same last name
But the sponsoring will be as a someone who lives with me not as a family member
Since it’s the same last name and all his credit cards on the same address
Will he be approved to be a member?
Will they ask tons of proofs ?
It’s not a random roommate

The way I understand their policy is that they want these to be people that actually pay some of the expenses of the member like helping with utilities or having a utility bill in their own name.

With that said, with the same last name and same address, it probably won't be scrutinized.

From their eligibility page: "Household members are defined as those who share your address and pay a major utility bill."

Have you considered daisy chain?

If able, sponsor brother, sister. Then, they sponsor their child.

I have raised my nephew since he was 2. He has a different last name and his mother lives in another state. I was able to sponsor him as he is now 23 and has one utility in his name that he pays.  He in turn sponsored his mom and brother.

They did not ask but he had it just in case.  They never asked any questions. He was at the same address and they said that is all they needed to know. He applied over the phone.  When my mom joined we did over the website and she never got asked any questions at all. Hope this helps.
