Re: What would prompt you to change your bank?

Usually I change banks based on location and divorce.  Bigest change when the first mrs. Backwoods went our own ways. She was in upper management of the Big Bank and there was no way.  I went to one by my house and darned if the Big Bank did not buy them a few years later.

Presenty I have an account with a    Bank next to office but as I posted stories about them before they require a 750 fico for on line  banking so I am scared to ask about their loans. They also have long holds.  The account is for quick check cashing. My regular  accounts are with Navy who I love. Dw and our biz use a small bank that is owned by a large bank holding co. The closest branch is about 75 miles away. They are great with  on line deposits  and have holds limited to very high amounts, they have free ach transfers going in/out that hit in one day. They don't charge fees as long is balance is balance is above $300.    If I deposit a check by 2 PM  I can use the money that day.

I would change banks or credit unions if they charged me fees when not warranted, become incompetent, or I’m no longer benefiting from their products.

Re: What would prompt you to change your bank?

I switched online banks to get an extra 0.25% of interest on savings.

I've had the same local bank for as long as I can remember.  If they started charging for checkwritng, I'd move on.

Re: What would prompt you to change your bank?

Open TD checking account Friday, setup online banking over the weekend. Monday locked out of account. Had to call. Told to go into a branch. That branch said they called another branch and they were expecting me. Went there, they had no idea. The manager was on the phone for a while and said it should be all set. No explanation why. Told to come back tomorrow to get my debit card. So most likely I’ll be closing it. Highly recommended lol.

DaveInAZ your story with Wells Fargo sounds oh, so familiar! ... I created quite a scene in the Wells Fargo Branch and they could not get me out the door fast enough (shook the branch manager up but good - which was my objective). Never would go back!!!

Re: What would prompt you to change your bank?

I’m in the process of leaving Wells Fargo. The funny thing is that it has nothing to do with their incompetence or fees (I’ve had no issues personally). I’ve had the same checking account number for 20 years now, but it’s been 3 different banks. What it comes down to is what can they do for me? And the answer is....NOTHING. I’ve opened accounts with three other banks because of better interest rates and offers, and it made me realize that there really is no reason to keep my WF account except for the fact that it’s the only account number I have memorized. So, it’s time to move on.

Re: What would prompt you to change your bank?

I have been with Navy Federal for 21 years and I would never change. My direct deposit goes to Navy Federal, and I use it for all my cash transactions however, I do not use Navy Federal for normal everyday banking. I use discover for checking (cash back debit) and several other exclusively on banks for savings. Navy Federal's savings and checking rates are less than desirable and I need my money to work a little harder for me.
