You can request an Early Exclusion from Transunion - they're usually willing to delete up to 6 months prior to drop off date. Experian is usually 3 months before; Equifax is up to one month before (though sometimes they'll do it sooner, doesnt hurt to ask).
You can also just pay it, bring the balance to zero - that will help your score because so long as the account shows a balance, it is factored into your overall util. And showing a paid account will look better upon lender review of your reports. Doing so will also help to mend your relationship with amex in case you ever wanted to have another card from them in the future.
