Broken Lease, May be interesting!

in 2018

I started a new lease before my current lease was up but decided when my current lease ended I did not want to live at the apartments anymore. This resulted in a eviction or broken lease for a full 12 months ( not sure because i never received paper work).

The Collection Agency is: IQ DATA INTERNATIONAL

The collection amount is 14,534

Also shows a 2nd amount of 15,884 below the collection amount

A few things you should know:

-I sent a certified letter of demand asking for a broken lease notice or eviction notice that they are required to present but they never provided through mail or via police escort. I sent this mid july 2018 my lease expired prior to this date on April 2018

- The amount that the Collection agency told me on july 10, 2018 was 14,653.73 which is completly different from the above amounts.

-  I sent a certified letter of demand demanding a copy of information(eviction or broken lease notice) and correct amount to the apartment complex  and they never responded.

i have proof of all records sent.

What can i do to rectify this situation?

Welcome @Wildcard1997

You may want to look into your states tenant laws. Some states if this occured. You'd only be responsible for the months that the apt wasnt occupied. As soon as a new tenant moved in. Thats the end of your debt to them. You did sign the lease so its like a pending contract. If need be there are tenant lawyers in your state that can give you a consultation and see if the landlord was in violation of leasing laws. They cant collect on 2 people at the same time for a whole year. Its a state by state/county laws that are in place. Everywhere is different. Good Luck.
