Two weeks ago ! sent a DV request to Capital One--the bland kind "I pulled my credit report and I discovered that you claim I owe you a debt. Under the RDCPA 809, send me validation of this debt."
So, in today's mail came the following response:
"Thanks for contacting us about your credit bureau report. IN order for us to research your request, please send the following:
Any supporting documentation, such as your credit report, showing that we've sent incorrect information
A copy of this letter with the last four digits of your account number
A copy of the original correspondence you sent to us
Your full 9 digit social security number
The exact nature of your dispute
Please note that we can't take action on your request until we recieve this information"
So, obviously they want me to do their job for them lol. So, now what? The ultimate goal being to have this removed from the report.
Thanks in advance!
From what I've read on here, you aren't supposed to help them do their job.

A DV request only goes to a CA, what you actually want to send Cap-1 is a Section 623 Direct Dispute with details of the errors that are reporting on their listing.
Oops, someone on here had suggested sending a DV letter to them--I did the same with Citibank and got the same response back. I'll look into this 623 dispute instead then.
Thanks!!

Hope it wasn't me. DVs only go to the CAs, not the OCs.

Nope, not you . I can't remember who it was though :/. Back to the letter writing drawing board!
So, does anyone know where I can find a current 623 dispute letter? I've searched the forums and on line and it looks like the regulations changed in the last few years, so there is advice for how to dispute, but it's out of date.
