Re: CapitalOne Pre-qualifier question

If denail is your main concern, then perhaps you might turn your attention to the pre-qual letters you may receive in the mail.

If any such unsolicited offer for credit was based on the creditor having obtained your name from a listing provided by the CRA, that offer for credit becomes a :"firm offer" under the FCRA that must be honored if you apply and you are then found to continue to meet the criteria used by the creditor to obtain the listing from the CRA.

That pre-screening done by the CRA can make an offer firm, whereas the web sites and other pre-qual procedures carry no firm offer.

Are you currently opted-in?

Re: CapitalOne Pre-qualifier question

Robert, I have no idea. I guess so if I'm getting them from Credit One and First Premier. ? I almost just applied for the quicksilver Cap One card, but I read in the disclosure that you shouldn't apply if not discharged yet and BK still unresolved. So of course I freaked and just said forget it. I'm about 3 weeks from being discharged. Anyone get a card with them before being discharged?

Sorry to hear that, the feelings that come with being denied really suck. I would wait the 3 weeks until your bankrupcty is discharged and updates on your reports to being discharged and apply for the Capital One Secured Card, unless at that time the prequal on their site offers you something better. A secured card will be just as good for your credit rebuilding as an unsecured would be and it can also get your foot in the door to get a better card from them later. Hang in there, better days are coming.

I know that feeling of pulling the credit trigger and being denied. It happens.
In this case is it possible to call for a recon explaining the discharge is forthcoming?

Whatever you decide, it will be well soon.

Re: CapitalOne Pre-qualifier question

Received an email this morning simply saying the denial was b/c I had too many past delinquents with them. Called for a recon this morning, with no luck. Smiley Sad Should I just let things sit a little while it should i apply for this First Premier pre approved/pre screened offer I received in the mail last week. Was trying to avoid b/c of the fees..but I don't know if I have a choice.?

I was under the impression that one was not supposed to get new credit while in the middle of a BK.

Don't get the FP card.  Get a couple of secured cards that are known to unsecure after 9-12 months.  You can also try to do the SCT to get an unsecured card.  I got the Sportsman's Guide Visa with a SP, and the Camping World Visa with an EQ HP.
