I live in Minnesota but my child support is through Nebraska. Nebraska was called and they said they will no longer report my arrears. ( I have been paying on them for 5 years now without a missed payment ).
So Experian deleted it off my report. Super! However, now Minnesota wants to report it!
I called the state, they said they have to report it, but will only report the balance, not as a judgement or collections or payments. So, how much after all this time being in Nebraska and building my credit report, will this screw up my report now if any?
I am in the process of trying to purchase a house via a VA loan and I am already over the min 620, and now I dont want it to dangle to that if I lost 50 points?
Thanks!
K
Is it being paid thru Minnesota now?
it has been for 5 years, they never reported it because Nebraska did, but Nebraska never really updated it. So they removed it.
From my experience someone is going to report it if it's ongoing. As far as I have seen on mine, it hasn't messed with my score but it impacts your debt to income ratio.
It shouldn't mess with your score at all as long as it is not a collections. Child support alone is not a factor in a FICO score.
Good, and thanks everyone for the replies, it would be a real pisser not being able to use my VA benefits to finally buy a house after paying child support for over 21 years.
