Collection for unreturned equipment

Yesterday 6/16/21 a new collection popped up on my credit report. It was Sunrise credit services for a non return equipment fee for AT&T. This is the second collection agency who had that account. The first was Credence Resource Manage, which was on my reports on 3/13/21 then it disappeared.

When it first hit my reports (CRM) I returned the equipment because I forgot about it, sorry my fault. It was returned on 3/15/2021 from looking at my fedx receipt.

I even called AT&T To asked why they haven't credited it back so they researched it and closed it out NOT in my favor. I believe they lost it.  So I called them once again today telling them I had found my receipt and they basically tell me to contact Sunrise who just bought the debt less than a month ago probably.

What should I do now? I haven't gotten anything in the mail from Sunrise as of yet, I wished I did I would have been ran to fedx to get another copy of my receipt, but 3 months later and AT&T haven't gotten the equipment yet? 😑

Re: Collection for unreturned equipment

File a complaint with the CFPB on AT&T and send Sunrise a copy of the return receipt with demand for deletion, also send them a printed confirmation of delivery to the addressee.

Re: Collection for unreturned equipment

The fact that you have a receipt showing later return of the equipment does not address the separate issue of whether any late fees were also paid.  It is not until the total debt has been discharged that there is no longer any colllectible amount.

Re: Collection for unreturned equipment

As previously stated . . . ensure that your balance is zero. Good thing is that AT&T is governed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), an independent agency of the United States government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable across the United States.

You could:

  • First, submit a written complaint to AT&T's Executive Team nicely requesting assistance in resolving the issue prior to filing a FCC complaint. If no response . . .
  • File a complaint with the FCC and I assure you they will contact AT&T. In fact, you can access the FCC's website and search for AT&T complaints.

Wishing you success in resolving the issue to your full satisfaction.Smiley Happy

Re: Collection for unreturned equipment

Actually I took it to another route that got great results. I did a complaint with the BBB. I uploaded my FedX receipt and a copy of the email when they investigated it and closed it out not in my favor. Less than 2 weeks someone responded, not asking for more information but to apologize and the same day I checked my credit reports and the collection agency was GONE! I wonder why the collection agency didn't delete when I emailed the copy of the receipt almost a month ago when asked? Lol, nevermind its gone now.

Re: Collection for unreturned equipment

I have the same issue with collections about this but I don't have my receipt, as this was almost 3 years ago. Do I have any recourse?
