I had 2 medical collections on my reports for $78 each. I called to just pay them and they said, "Ok but you have 2 other accounts with us: one for about $1,800 and the other for like $28,000." I was like uuhhh I need to call you back and just never took care of it. Not sure why they put the $78 collections on my reports and the other massive amounts, but they're over 7 years old now, so I know they won't be creeping back on my reports.
I also had another collection from a payday loan I got back in like 2012. They were calling me and hounding me, so I just paid it. It was removed from my reports and then like a few weeks later, it showed back up! Apparently, another CA had gotten the account and was trying to collect after I had paid it. I sent them a nice little letter explaining that they did not have collection authority and they needed to remove the account immediately. It was gone within a few days or weeks.
